Washington, D.C. photographer John Buckley immersed himself in an historic neighborhood in his home city for the six months between the Election of 2020 and Memorial Day 2021, documenting a street-level view of events with his camera, with text describing the importance of the 14th and U Street neighborhood in the Nation’s Capital. Pictures of U: Six Months in an Historic D.C. Neighborhood is the collection of these works.
Brief
John approached me with his work in hopes of self-publishing a book that would present his work professionally. The book needed to look and feel premium. One specific we discussed was guidance on the story the photos would tell within each chapter and how I might order the photos.
